Army seeks greater Pacific role

Approaching from the Hawaii coast, the mosquito-shaped helicopter buzzed around this guided missile cruiser twice before swooping toward the landing pad. The Navy crew on the deck crouched, the helmeted faces betraying more than routine concern as the aircraft, flown by a pilot who had never before alighted upon a ship, hovered a foot off the tarmac and then set down with a thud. The sailors' trepidation was prompted by three words painted in black block letters on the drab olive fuselage: United States Army. The Army, which fights on terra firma, does not usually land its helicopters on ships — the domain of the Navy and the Marine Corps — but these are not usual times in the U.S. military. As the Obama administration winds down the Army-centric war in Afghanistan, Pentagon leaders are seeking to place the Air Force, Navy and Marines in dominant roles to counter threats in the Asia-Pacific region, which they China High Temperature hoses manufacturers have deemed to be the nation's next big national security challenge. Fearful that the new strategy will cut its share of the defense budget, the Army is launching an ambitious campaign to transform itself and assert its relevance in the Pacific. And that, in turn, is drawing the Army into a fight. Calculating that there are only slim chances of the Army fighting a big land war anywhere in the Far East other than the Korean Peninsula, the new top Army commander in the Pacific, Gen. Vincent Brooks, wants his forces to more quickly and effectively respond to small conflicts, isolated acts of aggression and natural disasters. Doing so, however, has traditionally been a challenge for the Army, which bases most of its soldiers assigned to the Orient in Hawaii, Alaska and Washington state. To overcome what he calls "the tyranny of distance," Brooks is trying to make his forces more maritime and expeditionary. To cut travel time and increase regional familiarity, he is seeking authorization to send key Low Temperature hoses suppliers elements of a U.S.-based infantry brigade to Asia and keep them there for months at a time, moving every few weeks to different nations to conduct training exercises. The rotating deployment, which amounts to the first proposed increase in U.S. forces in Asia in years, could enable the Army to move more speedily to address humanitarian crises and security threats. Brooks said he wants "a capable force that can respond to a variety of contingencies" — rapidly. "Forces that are already in motion have an advantage in responding," he said. The initiative, which Brooks is calling "Pacific Pathways," is also an opportunity to recast the Army's image in Washington, yielding television images of soldiers — not just Marines and sailors — responding to typhoons and cyclones. "We can no longer afford to build [combat] units and put them on a shelf to be used only in the event of war," Brooks's command wrote in an internal planning document.

Aiming to Repeat Hybrid Success

When Toyota Motor Corp. rolled out its hybrid Prius in 1997, few predicted it would become the success it is today. It was too expensive, too small and debuted at a time when gasoline prices weren't so high. In its first year, Toyota only sold 300 Priuses. In the following six years, annual global sales were also modest, at just 15,200 to 43,200 units. But now, thanks to environmentally conscious motorists reeling from high gasoline prices, the Prius has become a major global brand. If the Japanese auto industry can capture lightning in a bottle again with a new generation of fuel-economy cars, the country should safely be able to keep its lead in the automobile industry for at least a decade or two. With an eye on such a goal, Japan plans to spend more on initiatives for fuel-cell cars that run on hydrogen and emit only water. The government said Tuesday it will earmark 7.2 billion ($69 million) to subsidize the building of hydrogen fueling stations in the next fiscal year starting April. It also will invest 6.4 billion in research to help lower fuel-cell production costs. Besides spending, a government-appointed committee is now drawing up a plan to foster the adoption of fuel-cell technologies through 2030. The committee consists of corporate and academic experts from an range of sectors, from Toshiba Corp. to Tokyo Gas Co. Beyond the implications for hybrid cars, Japan eventually wants something bigger. Hydrogen fuel can be produced in various ways, including from coal, oil, natural gas and biomass. But if conventional fuels are used to produce hydrogen, it loses its environmental advantage. The government hopes to eventually produce hydrogen from water using electricity from hydro, wind, solar and geothermal energy. "It's not going to happen any time soon. At first, we'll use the byproduct of hydrogen from oil refineries and chemical plants," said Masami Hihara, deputy director of the industry ministry's Smart Community Policy Office. "But we should be prepared for when demand takes off, or we wouldn't see any innovations," he said. A project to produce hydrogen from low-grade coal in Australia has been proposed with the resulting CO2 captured and stored underground, Mr. Hihara said. A local government in Russia has approached Japan with a project to use their abundant hydro-power to produce hydrogen fuel, he added. Both Toyota and Honda have announced plans to roll out fuel-cell cars for the commercial market in 2015, making these companies some of the first car makers to do so. The Association of Hydrogen Supply/Utilization Technology, an industry body made up of oil refiners, gas utilities, gasoline station operators and plant makers, has been working toward building 100 hydrogen refueling stations by 2015. Currently, there are about a dozen in Japan. Other countries have also been working toward a dominant position in fuel-cell technologies. In California, auto manufacturers, energy providers, government agencies and fuel-cell technology companies have formed an organization and recommended 68 hydrogen refueling stations be built to establish a commercial market, and at least 100 stations to sustain it. In September, California committed up to $20 million a year until 2024 for at least 100 stations.

This Is How South Florida Babies React To Snow

When I got an email from my daughter's preschool, titled "Snow Day!" I was confused. In the Northeast, where I grew up, snow days mean the school is closed. Do South Florida schools use fake snow days as an excuse to close? The message was even more confusing: Eight tons of SNOW will be delivered to our preschool straight from the North Pole! The cost of bringing in the snow is $1,500.00 so for this special activity the cost per child is only $15.00. Every year, Marty Enis, owner of Florida Ice Manufacturing, comes down from Westford, Mass., to deliver snow to South Florida schools, malls, and churches from around Thanksgiving through February. He's kind of like a snowbird, but he comes Flexible hose here to work. On the day of the event at my daughter's Little Havana preschool, a truck arrives filled with 3-foot-tall blocks of ice that several men line up on a ramp, and then slide into what looks like an old train engine. That machine cuts up the ice, shoots it through a hose, and in a less than a minute -- presto! Snow. (Technically, this is not snow, which is frozen water vapor, as opposed to frozen water liquid. But in South Florida, this distinction probably doesn't matter.) The first group to play is the 1-year-olds. The kids are wearing a ridiculous amount of clothing for the 70-degree weather: puffy jackets, snow pants, hats and mittens. All of the clothing looks completely new. But after a few minutes of sitting chemical hose on the snow, the 1-year-olds are crying – a lot. I ask one parent, Jorge Munoz of Coral Gables, about his daughter's reaction: "She's still wondering what this white stuff is. She doesn't want to sit on the snow because it's way too cold, and she's wondering why she is here." My daughter Juno, who's 2, wasn't very interested either. My constant suggestions that she touch or play with the snow are met with pleading cries of "nooo" and demands to pick her up as she tries to maintain her balance on the melting snow. Jorge grew up in Venezuela, where it's warm year-round. He says they did not sing about snow there: "We're not as obsessed as Americans about the weather because it's a non-issue. It's always warm so why would you even care about it, right?" So why do we care in warm sunny South Florida? I just didn't want my daughter to be left out of a class activity. But is the reason for this kind of event driven by people missing some place with cold winters? Or just a feeling that Christmas here should match all the snowy imagery attached to the holiday?

Manure transformed into biodegradable plastic

The idea of drinking out of a plastic cup made from cow manure may not seem overly appetizing to some people.

“It’s not particularly appetizing to me either,” said Erik Coats, a University of Idaho civil engineering professor who is researching the chemistry of converting bio-waste into biodegradable plastic.

“The yuck factor is pretty strong.”

Coats’s 24-foot sanitary-white trailer, which serves as an experimental mobile plastic factory, converts 10 U.S. gallons of dairy slurry into China High Temperature hoses manufacturers five pounds of biodegradable plastic a day.

The trailer is located next to the university’s dairy barns and connected to them by a big hose. It is the only such research project in the United States.

The trailer’s 200 U.S. gallon fermentation tanks are the vital link between the laboratory test tubes of a couple years ago and the first million gallon tank needed for a full-scale commercial production, maybe a couple years into the future.

Coats’s bioplastic carries the scientific title polyhydroxyalkanoate but is more commonly referred to as PHA.

The material is as clear, flexible, scentless and tasteless as a plastic bread bag. There’s not the slightest hint it’s derived from cow manure.

However, to avoid unwanted marketing problems, Coats said his bioplastic won’t be used in food packaging.

“It’s strictly for single use applications like packaging or where a plastic cover must be biodegradable,” he said.

“I met recently with some folks who China Low Temperature hoses manufacturers treat seeds with nutrients and fungicides wrapped in a polymer coating. Our PHA is biodegradable so it’s perfect for something like that.”

In the agricultural sector, a biodegradable plastic might be suitable as bale wrap, baling twine, bags and liquid containers.

Nearly all plastic products are produced from petro-chemicals. Replacing them globally with PHA would go a long way toward relieving pressure on reserves of fossil fuels.

Some PHA products are made from corn, but the downside is that they keep corn out of the human and livestock food supply. Replacing those PHA items with manure-based PHA would be a positive move.

Study Links Fracking Chemicals and Hormone Disruption

High levels of hormone-disrupting chemicals have been found in water samples near fracking sites in Colorado, according to research accepted for publication in The Endocrine Society’s journal Endocrinology.

The chemicals “could raise the risk of reproductive, metabolic, neurological and other diseases, especially in children who are exposed to EDCs [endocrine-disrupting chemicals],” said one of the study’s authors, Susan Nagel, of the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

Researchers took surface and ground water samples from sites with drilling spills or accidents in Garfield County, Colo. The area has more than 10,000 natural gas wells. Researchers also looked at control samples from sites without spills in Garfield County, as well samples from Boone County, Missouri.

The water samples from drilling sites had higher levels of EDC activity that could interfere with the body’s response to the reproductive hormone estrogen, and androgens, a class of hormones that includes testosterone.

Drilling site water samples had moderate to high levels of the hormone-disrupting chemical. Water samples from the Colorado River, which is the drainage basin for the natural gas drilling sites, had moderate levels.

Researchers found little EDC activity in the water samples from the sites with little drilling.

“Fracking is exempt from federal regulations to protect water quality, but spills associated with natural gas drilling can contaminate surface, ground, and drinking water,” Nagel said.

Researchers looked at 12 suspected endocrine-disrupting chemicals used in fracking. They measured the chemicals’ ability to mimic, or block, the effect of the body’s male and female reproductive hormones.

“More than 700 chemicals are used in the fracking process, and many of them disturb hormone function,” Nagel said.

Research has linked EDC exposure to infertility, cancer and birth defects.

“With fracking on the rise, populations may face greater health risks from increased endocrine-disrupting chemical exposure,” Nagel said.

EDCs can also be found in manufactured products, certain foods, air, water, and soil.

Other authors of the study include: C.D. Kassotis, J.W. Davis and A.M. Hormann of the University of Missouri, and D.E. Tillitt of the U.S. Geological Survey.

UNCG suffocated by Blue Hose zone

Ugoka led the way for Tech, racking up 12 points and 12 rebounds to record her fourth double-double of the year and the ninth of her career. Taijah Campbell also earned a double-double, pulling down 12 rebounds to go with her 10 points. Hannah Young also had 10 boards on the day.Keyonna Allen scored nine points to pace the Blue Hose.Presbyterian's Jordan Downing scored a career-high 37 points, including 10-for-10 from the free throw line in leading the Blue Hose to an 87-66 win over UNCG at the Greensboro Coliseum on Tuesday in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.Downing's scoring outburst — he was 11 of 15 from the field, and 5 of 6 from beyond the arc — was a Division I record for Presbyterian, which is playing in just its seventh season at that level, and came against a UNCG defense which had been limiting opponents to only 59.5 points per game prior to Tuesday's contest.

One member of the Blue Hose who was familiar with the coliseum and the Spartans was Presbyterian's Reggie Dillard, a Greensboro Day School product who is the team's second-leading scorer, averaging 13.6 points per game.Dillard chipped in 11 points and eight assists in Tuesday's victory, and his two first-half three-pointers helped spark Presbyterian's 19-6 game-opening run, which ultimately proved too much for the Spartans to overcome."To come back home and win here is an accomplishment," Dillard said. "I love coming back here. I have a big supporting cast and I played some games in the Martin Luther King Day Tournament at the coliseum when I was in high school."

UNCG's only lead of the game came at 3-0 on Nicholas Paulos' 3-pointer just nine seconds into the game.Paulos led the Spartans with 22 points on eight-of-14 shooting, including 6 of 12 from 3-point range, but that wasn't enough to help overcome UNCG's worst offensive output of the season. The Spartans had been averaging 80.4 points per game and 49.7 percent on field goals this season, but finished shooting just 35.3 percent from the floor against Presbyterian's stingy zone."We're not having a lot of success against the zone," UNCG coach Wes Miller said. "We didn't see one possession of man-to-man tonight."UNCG had been limiting opponents to just 48.1 percent field goal shooting, but the Spartans allowed the Blue Hose to shoot 62 percent from the floor on Tuesday.

Parker expands Compact SpiralTM hose line

A minimum bend radius does not necessarily mean that an installer can easily bend the hose into that shape. The proprietary design and construction of Compact Spiral hose makes it the most flexible hose in the most difficult to achieve international standard buy Fuel and Oil Hoses– ISO 18752. By using Compact Spiral, installers can save valuable time and effort when routing hoses in their equipment.Since its introduction, Compact Spiral hose has made significant inroads with OEM manufacturers in the off-highway, truck and trailer and industrial machinery applications. Users cite both the design and assembly advantages of the hose – it requires a smaller footprint, is easier to connect and reduces installer fatigue.

The new large sizes are designed to meet market needs in oil and gas, mining, forestry and heavy off-road equipment applications.Along with the new hose sizes, Parker added more than 60 new fitting end configurations to its 77 Series steel fitting line for Compact Spiral hose. Nearly 300 fitting configurations are now available.A man who appeared from the storage cupboard of a hotel naked with a fire extinguisher hose up his bottom, has walked free from court.Joseph Small, 20, was on the fourth floor of the Premier Inn in London's Leicester Square when he stripped off, took the object, stuck the hose between his buttocks and started touching himself, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.

He then urinated on the carpet and a lift door before being wrapped in a towel by a member of staff and taken to reception. There, Small racially abused the man, who is originally from Bangladesh, telling him: "This country has been taken over by al-Qa'ida – go back to Pakistan."Small also urinated again in the lobby in front of other guests while shouting: "I come from Sheffield in England," the court heard. When police arrived, fuel hose Small also hurled abuse at the officers, referring to one as a "paedo".Prosecutor Darren Watts said: "The defendant could also be seen on CCTV placing a fire extinguisher hose inside his rectum and masturbating at the same time - Hassan the hotel employee went back to reception and called the police."

Prison Sentence In Theft Case For Former Hose Company Head

In addition to the prison time, Sweeney was ordered to spend 1,000 hours doing community service for Greenwood Hose Company and pay back full restitution. His attorney said Sweeney's already paid back $100,000 dollars. But, some people think paying back the fire department isn't the same thing as paying your debt to society."I think there should be a black and white sentence, if you steal so much money you get so many years. And if you can't make your restitution you get more years," said Leo Ventura of Scranton.Several Presbyterian College football players earned spots on the Big South All-Conference team, as selected today by the league football coaches.

Jeremiah McKie took home two honors as a First Team Special Teams punt returner, and Second Team Special Teams kick returner. Tobi Antigha was named to the second team as a wide receiver and Tim Fowler as an offensive lineman. Stephen Doar was selected to the All-Academic Team.McKie caught 12 punt returns for a total of 150 yards, 12.5 yards per carry. He returned a punt against Brevard 50 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, just one of two in the conference to do so this year. His 63 total punt yards was a PC Division I record as well against Brevard. McKie Led the league in punt return yards with his 150 and was fifth in punt returns overall.

McKie was also the recipient of 20 kick returns for tops in the league, taking the ball 490 yards for a 24.5 average per return. He took one back a career-long 97 yards for a touchdown against VMI, one of just three in the league this season to accomplish the feat. He was third in the league in kick returns, kick return yards and second in kick return average. An 11-game starter this season, Antigha led the team in receiving and was seventh in rushing. He led the Blue Hose and was ninth in the conference in scoring touchdowns with eight. Antigha was also second on the team and 10th in the league in all-purpose yards. He was third in the conference in receptions per game, yards per catch and receiving yards per game.

Bus put out of service after hose leak

"Members of Ulster Hose Fire and Mobile Life Support arrived a short time later and continued life saving efforts," Brennan wrote."If it were not for the action of the Ulster Police Department and especially Officer Stroh, the victim surely would have perished at the scene," he wrote. "I am by no means downplaying the everyday accomplishments of the emergency services community. However, there are instances that are extraordinary and this is one of them."The school bus with a ruptured antifreeze line that sent one student to the hospital last week has been taken out of service.Bus No. 23,China Fuel and Oil hosess manufacturers which carries Maple Ridge Elementary School children, is no longer in service after an inspection by Indiana State Police on Monday.

"It's been taken out of service until we can fix it," said Mark Matlock, director of support services for South Madison Community Schools. On Nov. 15, an antifreeze line connected to a heating box under a seat ruptured, burning a fifth-grader's leg and flooding the bus floor. The students were evacuated from the bus, and no one else suffered any burns.Matlock said the inspection showed the hose had warped just before it entered the heater box under a seat. Usually the hoses run along the side of the bus and are covered in case they do rupture. Matlock said the hose blew in the one spot it wasn't covered up."I've never seen anything like that happen since I've been here," Matlock said. "It was a first for our mechanic, too."

Matlock said the bus will be repaired and then put back into service. It was unclear what caused the rupture. Matlock said it could have been a number of things, including old age.Bus 23 was commissioned in 2008,China Chemical hosess manufacturers which puts it less than halfway through its life. Matlock said their buses typically have a 12-year life cycle."We've had hoses on buses last for the whole 12 years," Matlock said. "This was an isolated incident; they always are."The buses are inspected by state police in the spring. Because of a decrease in the number of inspectors, Matlock said a third of their buses are checked in February, March and April. Bus 23 was inspected on March 11 and received clearance.

Select a proper hose for pneumatic tools

Before selecting the type of air hose, consider the type of pneumatic tools you plan to use and the length of hose you need. These factors can determine how well the air tool operates. An air hose size is designated by the inside diameter of the hose, even though the outside may look the same. The most common sizes are 1/4 and 3/8 inch inside diameters.A tool that uses a lot of compressed air volume will need a 3/8-inch hose. The label on the tool should list its airflow requirement. In order to save weight and cost, some people use a combination of hose materials. A typical setup is 25 feet of heavy 3/8-inch rubber hose with another 10 feet of lightweight plastic hose between it and the tool.

PVC air hose is one of the newest hose materials that is less expensive than good-quality rubber hose. It is lighter than rubber, which can be a significant advantage if you are working off the ground. The exterior is smooth,Grain oil hoses suppliers so it will not damage wood trim, and it can easily be cleaned. A 50-foot 3/8-inch hose should cost from $10 to $20.Another new material for air hoses is polyurethane. Its cost, from $30 to $65 for 50 feet, is significantly higher than other hose materials, but it is the favorite choice of many professionals. It weighs less than half as much as a rubber air hose and two-thirds as much as PVC. It is durable, but you should handle it with care because it has a tendency to kink or twist.

For indoor jobs near the compressor, an inexpensive nylon hose is a good option. It is usually sold in 1/4-inch diameter and coiled. This makes it easy to store by the compressor and it is lightweight and easy to keep clean.Hard work, strong leadership and community have brought Biglerville Hose & Truck Company #1 from its humble beginning with only a hand-drawn hose cart to what it has grown into today with a fleet of quality apparatus manned by well-trained firefighters. As the fire company marks its 100th anniversary, a celebration was held Sunday at the South Main Street, Biglerville firehouse with many longtime members,Tank truck hoses suppliers dignitaries, firefighters and community members present for the festivities.

Blogger May Wish To Rethink Calling Rep

Some people get pretty worked up about Obamacare. Here, for instance, is Jeff Goldstein, the proud proprietor of ProteinWisdom.com, explaining to civil rights legend John Lewis that YUH HUH Obamacare IS TOO SLAVERY, and also that John Lewis is a "parasite" — you know who else called people "parasites"? — and a disgrace to the civil rights movement, and that he should go fuck himself. We are going to skip past his assertion that the Tea Party fights for "the epistemology of the Enlightenment," because it made our brain kill itself. Here, look for yourself! You sir, are a disgrace to the civil rights movement, a disgrace to the seriousness of the historic fight for equal rights for blacks led by Republicans, a disgrace to those you purport to represent, yet upon whose ignorance and perpetually stoked victimization you continue to prey. I despise people like you.

You've turned a past injustice into a cottage race industry upon which you live like a parasite. And your attempts to tether that past injustice to those of us who today fight for the freedom and autonomy of the individual to resist the oppression of the state suggests that it is you, sir, who today carries the fire hoses and have shown yourself willing, time and again, to release the dogs against those who oppose your designs on their liberty. In short, you are an opportunistic relic who, your protestations to the contrary, has become a bane to the very progress of the people your purport to speak for. So go fuck yourself.

No, "slavery" was when John Lewis crushed the rights of Sovereign Citizens to control their own states and buses and lunch counters, by forcing them to enter into contracts with and serve negroes. Why did John Lewis insist on enslaving all those lunchcounter owners who were just minding their own business beating up negroes like John Lewis? Why did John Lewis turn his fire-hose on them, by making them serve grilled cheese sandwiches equally to patrons without regard to race or creed?Of course, Jeff Goldstein is a blogger and "sometime fiction writer," which on its face means he has done more for civil rights than having been a freedom rider, and also being jailed and beaten for being a freedom rider, and then getting elected to Congress.

Tyler Children's Park to host 10th Annual 'Christmas in the Park'

Mika estimated startup costs of $250,000 for initial inventory for hose and couplings, along with first-year operating cost and having a sizable amount of available warehouse space. Successful industrial hose distributors also typically have staff dedicated to that part of the business."If you're going to put in part-time focus, you're going to get part-time results," he said. "You're either in the industrial hose business or you're not. You have to stock common products, and you have to make the commitment for the people and the resources to make sure they are properly trained."Buzz Hooper of Rubber & Accessories Inc. said he started in the business with a manufacturer and got to visit distributors all over the U.S.

"I saw what a good distributor was and what a bad distributor was China Low Temperature hoses manufacturers," he said. "It's a very good business to be in, but just make sure you're ready to make that commitment because you can't be in industrial hose half way."Eaton also provides support to its distributors by making sure that both outside and inside sales staff are trained on new products. The firm also works with either NAHAD or coupling manufacturer partners to ensure proper training on couplings is provided. Its first choice in looking to add industrial hose distributors is to work with established Eaton distributors, according to Mika. The company has established Aeroquip and Weatherhead distributors for hydraulic lines, and the goal is to get them to convert to Eaton industrial hose if they currently sell another brand or to teach those not in the business what it takes to enter the sector.

Ed Fabacher of Fabacher Inc. said for those in the fluid conveyance industry, it is easy to incorporate industrial hose into the business. "I encourage you to do so because I think you'd find the profitability would be very astounding." A few years ago I wrote about my never-ending search for the perfect garden hose,Grain oil hoses suppliers meaning one that did not continually kink.I wrote about how tired I was of spending a significant amount of money on a hose that supposedly would never kink only to have it do just that every time I used it.So last spring I was thrilled when I began to see TV commercials for a new kind of garden hose that was supposedly magic.

'As seen on TV' magic garden hose a bust

When the man on the commercial turned off the water, the magic hose began to shrivel up until it was nearly as small as when he first hooked it to the spigot. While I was impressed by this hose's magic expanding and contracting act, I was even more taken by the commercial's promise that this hose was very light and would never kink.Light is good. We have lots of plants at the back of our yard, and it takes about 75 feet of hose to reach them. Rolling 75 feet of regular garden hose back onto a reel is hard work.We decided to spend $20 for one of these miracle hoses. If it lived up to the promises made on TV, we would buy more.I hooked it to the spigot and turned on the water. Sure enough the ball of hose quickly expanded to its 25-foot length. It was extremely light and never kinked. So we bought two more.

Yes, $60 is a significant investment for garden hoses, but even at 75 feet it was extremely easy to maneuver around the yard. And no kinks and no need to roll it back onto a reel. All was well until one day in August when my wife, Brenda, was out watering flowers. She hadn't been out very long when she came back inside and said, "We have a problem."She told me how the water pressure had suddenly dropped. When she turned around, she watched a spot on the middle section of the hose suddenly grow into a huge water balloon before quickly popping.Funny, they never showed that magic trick on the TV commercials.Upon closer inspection of the blown-out section, I discovered that our magic hose was nothing more than paper thin plastic tubing wrapped with loose-fitting material.

Needless to say, I was heartbroken. Yes, the hose was light and never even thought about kinking. But it exploded after fewer than 20 uses.We have continued to use the remaining two sections of the magic hose, but I don't expect them to last past next spring. Another $60 wasted on garden hose. But no more. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me 10 or 12 times, shame on me.From now on the only garden hose I'm using is Mother Nature. She, too, is extremely light and never kinks. She's also free.I'm turning all watering duties over to her. If she wants our flowers to live, she'll water them; if she doesn't, she won't.

Artist Turns Garden Hoses, Toilet Plungers, Rain Spouts Into "Suburban Angst" Art

Artist Lynn Aldrich likes to quote a short story from writer Flannery O'Connor as a source of creative wisdom. "She said, 'You must find your own country,'" says Aldrich, "meaning that instead of searching for something you think is way cooler than what you've got, your best art will come out of what is purely your connection to the world."Aldrich, who lives in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale, took O'Connor's advice to heart when she found backyard inspiration in the form of the humble garden hose."A garden hose has a mind of its own," Aldrich says. "Anybody who struggles with them in their garden knows it's difficult material, so I just go with what the hose wants to do."The resulting sculptures, oil hose featured in the "Lynn Aldrich: Un/Common Objects" exhibition opening October 11 at Alyce de Roulet Williamson Gallery, are intended to embody the artist's sense of "suburban angst," as she wryly describes it.

Aldrich rounded up her raw materials on shopping trips to warehouse outlets and hardware stores. "As I collected these beautiful garden hoses I thought about how, through a slight shift, I could make this material resonate with some kind of meaning that transcends its ordinary use."Aldrich, who earned an MFA at Art Center College of Design and taught there for 12 years, uses razor-equipped shears to clip hoses into segments that can be manipulated as if they're pigments. She explains, "I'm like a painter in a way: I have a palette and pick up different colors that I put them next to each other so they have an artistic relationship."

"Un/Common Objects" also showcases rain-gutter sculptures and reef-like constructions assembled from sponges, oven mitts, toilet plungers, onshore hose and other hyper-vibrant cleaning products. She traces her fascination with biomorphic consumer products to her childhood. "My fantasy growing up was to be a marine biologist so now I'm kind of doing that by going around to 99-cent stores and high-end hardware outlets to buy cleaning implements that can become like sea anemones," Aldrich says. "The plungers look kind of like suction cups that grip the ocean floor."Citing the late "Land Artist" Robert Smithson as a key influence, Aldrich operates at the intersection of culture and nature, deliberately avoiding "found objects" in favor of store-bought items.

It also takes quite a financial investment for distributors not already marketing industrial hose. Mika estimated startup costs of $250,000 for initial inventory for hose and couplings, along with first-year operating cost and having a sizable amount of available warehouse space. Hose and Sommer named Fire Safety Drill Champions

Push the button again, and five seconds later the water stops. Push the retract button and the machine reels in hose at an almost perfect walking pace. It's the civilized way to spray water around your property. The Great Stuff RoboReel Water Management System makes good on its promise to deliver a truly better garden hose experience, but we can't help wondering who this product is really for. Anyone willing to drop $700 on a hose probably has enough money to hire others to take care of his lawn, so the only remaining customer base we can think of is the obsessive, price-is-no-object lawn enthusiast who insists on taking care of his own turf. Great Stuff had better hope there are enough of those people out there are willing to buy the RoboReel.

After testing the local schools last week on their readiness and efficiency during a fire drill,Grain oil hoses suppliers the Crawfordsville Fire Department announced the winners of the 2014 Fire Safety Drill at the two winning schools Wednesday afternoon. The Fire Safety program in the area schools is part of Fire Prevention Week.Chief Inspector Brian Bechtel and Crawfordsville Professional Firefighters Local 4143 Vice President Dustin Harris presented a trophy to the principal of Hose Elementary and then at Sommer Elementary in front of their respective student bodies."We have four or five guys that come out and grade each school during their drills. We look for things like a sense of urgency but not tripping over each other, are they holding doors open for each other, if a student was left behind, then what part of the building they would be in," Bechtel said. "Just the basics of a fire drill, but really important things during a real emergency."

Bechtel said each principal and their faculties deserve a lot of credit for organizing their students as well as they did."We are really excited. We worked hard for this award, preparing our staff and students in case of an emergency Tank truck hoses suppliers," Hose Principal Carol Starlin said. "It's time to have the trophy at Hose for another year."Sommer Principal Suzi Gephart echoed that thought."Last year we went under a huge safety evaluation and really reworked a lot of the procedures," Gephart said, accepting the trophy for the first time at Sommer. "This award proves we're really doing the right thing here."

Does the Flex-Able Hose still work after six months?

Still, Nancy is hesitant to say that she would buy the hose. She says for her gardening purposes it won't always work because she often likes to deep soak her plants. The Flex-Able Hose only works with the spray attachment, so she doesn't have that option. Also, Nancy says she isn't sure that it will withstand the Phoenix sun. Nancy said she will keep us posted and we will let you know what she says. The Flex-Able Hose comes in different sizes and costs about $28 including online shipping. In March we tested the FlexAble Hose and the manufacturers of this product claim it expands from the size of the palm of your hand up to 25 feet or 50 feet , depending on which size you purchase.

In addition the hose claims it will have no kinks or tangles. When we tested it back in March, the hose did what the manufacturers claimed and we gave it a thumbs up. We tested the hose out for more than a week and it performed as claimed. We wondered though how it would do over time. Nancy from Phoenix was one of our testers and she recently emailed us to share that one of the FlexAble Hoses she purchased sprung a leak. She stated she went back to the store and they replaced it, but yet again it she got another leak.I did some research and not only does the FlexAble Hose get a lot of bad reviews for leaking or just bursting but similar hoses, including the Pocket Hose, had very similar, negative reviews.

The Pet Collective is once again decimating the nation's productiveness with a recent video of golden retriever puppies squeezing themselves under a garden hose. It's impossible to answer emails or return calls when these fuzzy, chubby blond dogs are inexplicably tunneling under a water hose in a big fluffy pile. What are they up to? How many of them are there? Do we need a puppy? Can we stop home on the way from work at a local shelter and maybe find a little dog to take home? Pet Collective is holding more things up right now than the government shutdown with their cute puppies. We should probably say "shame on you," but we need to go watch this video again.

Blue Hose frustrated by narrow setback

Furman's 21-20 win against Presbyterian College came down to a blocked 23-yard field goal with the clock winding down.It left the Blue Hose with a bad taste in their mouths, as if they'd been chewing on Furman's new synthetic turf."It's a hard one to swallow," said Harold Nichols, Presbyterian's fifth-year coach. "You feel like your kids played hard and did everything they needed to do to win the game. We came up one play short."I think we played it the right way. A field goal wins the game. We got down to the 5-yard line, they were running out of timeouts,China Fuel and Oil hosess manufacturers and I didn't want to give them another possession."

"They made the play and deserved to win because of it," Nichols said later.Nichols said he placed no blame on his place-kicker, freshman Brett Wilson."Whether you win or lose a football game isn't one person's fault," Nichols said. "There are a lot of plays in the course of a game that go into winning or losing."Both Nichols and Presbyterian quarterback Kaleb Griffin praised the Blue Hose defense, which held the Paladins to 182 yards total offense."Our defense played great," said Griffin, who completed 15 of 18 passes for 135 yards. "We came out and played a good first half. But we had too many turnovers. That was the real difference in the game."

Presbyterian hasn't beaten Furman since 1979, but the school has been chipping away at Furman's dominance in the last couple of years. The Blue Hose lost by 10 points in 2012 in Clinton, coming back from a 24-0 deficit at halftime. On Saturday, they matched the Paladins with 59 plays but compiled 96 more yards total offense China Chemical hosess manufacturers. Charlotte 49ers go back to basics, beat Presbyterian Blue Hose 45-21

Quarterback Matt Johnson could tell there was something different about his Charlotte 49ers teammates last week.Coming off a second consecutive loss, Johnson felt a sense of purpose from the 49ers as they began their week of preparation for Saturday's game at Presbyterian."Monday morning, with how we started studying film, started practice, everything we do, it was amazing to see," Johnson said after the 49ers beat the Blue Hose 45-21 at Bailey Memorial Stadium. "We had to get back to the basics, and that's what we did."

After opening the first football season in school history with victories against overmatched Campbell and Chowan, the 49ers were outclassed in successive losses against established FCS programs N.C. Central and James Madison.Charlotte was able to bounce back with authority against the Big South's Blue Hose. Spotting Presbyterian an early lead, the 49ers scored 38 unanswered points during one stretch. The 49ers got a balanced attack rushing for a season-high 236 yards, passing for 269 on their way to 505 total yards. Johnson completed 15 of 24 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown, a 53-yarder to Mikel Hunter during a second quarter in which Charlotte outscored Presbyterian 21-0.

Charlotte's rushing attack, with Alan Barnwell 88 yards, one touchdown and Kalif Phillips 79 yards, two scores leading the way, wore down a Blue Hose defense that struggled to keep up with the 49ers' spread, no-huddle offense."A lot of that was our offensive line," Lambert said. "I think our strength program really showed today."After trailing 14-7 midway through the first quarter, the 49ers shut down the Blue Hose the rest of the way, scoring 38 consecutive points during one stretch and setting up a game against 25th-ranked Gardner-Webb next Saturday at Richardson Field.

Trelleborg purchases hose technology By Mike McNulty

The new transfer hose system, expected to be completed and qualified in 2014, will be used to extract floating liquid natural gas in more demanding environments, according to Mikael Fryklund, president of Trelleborg Industrial Solutions.Production of the hose system will take place at the company's Clermont-Ferrand, France, plant, a Trelleborg spokeswoman said. Saipem and Trelleborg have been working on an offloading system since 2009, she said, using floating cryogenic flexible hoses to transfer gases as liquid natural gas Grain oil hoses suppliers or liquid petroleum gas in open seas.

Floating liquefied natural gas is a cost-effective, flexible way for commercializing new gas discoveries in deep water locations, the company said. Currently, it said, there are few qualified systems available for offloading floating liquefied natural gas."For some time now, Trelleborg has held a leading global position within oil hose systems for offshore offloading," Fryklund said. With the technology acquired from SBM, "we will strengthen our total offering within offloading oil and gas."

Meanwhile, he said SBM will continue to be a strategic partner to Trelleborg in the development of technologies. In the 2000s, the Tank truck hoses suppliers jointly developed Trelline technology for oil offloading line transfer systems, according to the spokes- woman.Historically, liquid natural gas off-loading has been conducted solely at fixed locations connected to land, Fryklund said, but that is changing because the technology is being developed to take advantage of offshore offloading of floating natural gas."This shift creates new technological challenges requiring a more flexible offloading system that enables the extraction of liquid natural gas in more demanding environments, without extended downtime and with a significantly reduced risk," he said.

Blown Water Hose Soaks Pa. Fire Station

Firefighters removed impacted items, including file cabinets and computers containing various records, a wall-mounted wide-screen TV and a copier with water still sitting in it as of Tuesday, from the flooded areas and then mopped up water."The damaged computers affect us,Accessories suppliers because we do online training and other things on them," Gannon said. Also damaged were an Instalert radio, predecessor to the modern emergency responder alert system, and shirts in one of the closets adjoining the lower-level meeting room.

Destroyed ceiling tiles and furniture were tossed into a trash bin outside, while possibly salvageable items were placed along the rear and one side of the fire truck bay. The fire company then contacted Paul Davis Emergency Services of Monroe County, a damage cleanup business that provided heavy-duty fans to blow out moisture and dehumidifiers to prevent mold buildup. An insurance adjuster has since visited the firehouse and will contact the fire company at some point with an estimated cost of damages.

"We're guessing it's in the thousands," Gannon said. "We're hoping our insurance company can cover all of it and we can get the damaged items replaced. Meanwhile, we're gonna keep doing what we've always done, which is serve our community."Gives the community and neighboring fire companies a chance to see Jackson Township's recently purchased $880,000 fire engine, pvc suction hose pipe a 38-foot-long 2013 KME Kovatch Predator, seating up to six in the cab and equipped with a water pumper, deck water gun and the Jaws of Life. Paladins start anew against Blue Hose

"Our defense played great," said Griffin, who completed 15 of 18 passes for 135 yards. "We came out and played a good first half. But we had too many turnovers. That was the real difference in the game."Presbyterian hasn't beaten Furman since 1979, but the school has been chipping away at Furman's dominance in the last couple of years. The Blue Hose lost by 10 points in 2012 in Clinton, coming back from a 24-0 deficit at halftime. On Saturday, they matched the Paladins with 59 plays but compiled 96 more yards total offense. The Blue Hose also had possession roughly five minutes longer than the Paladins.

"We expected them to play hard. Everybody was fired up," Furman running back Hank McCloud said. "They had a big win last week, and we wanted to get our first win at home."While the Furman football team is off to a slow start this season, this week's home opener remains one of the most highly anticipated in the 32-year history of Paladin Stadium. When the Paladins and Presbyterian kickoff at noon today it will be on the stadium's new synthetic turf surface. Fans on the home stands will enter through Furman's new Pearce Horton Football Complex, and many will be sitting in new seats.

"It's exciting for us to get home and see all that come together this Saturday," Furman coach Bruce Fowler said. "I think it's a great reflection of where we are as a program. We're doing things to get going in the right direction."While the rainy spring and summer hindered construction, Furman athletic director Gary Clark said everything remained on schedule for this season. The only major upgrade left is the press box level, which should be ready by the Paladins' next home game, Oct. 5 against Elon."Weather did slow things down. There's no way around that with that kind of rain that we had this past summer," said Clark. "Triangle Construction has done a great job of getting us caught up so we could host the game Saturday. They've made a lot of progress in the last three weeks."

Susquehanna Hose Company Gives Bride and Groom a Lift

Taylor and Chris Karabaich had just taken their vows at the Concord Point Lighthouse when they were faced with their first big problem as husband and wife. After the Saturday ceremony, the Westminster couple's ride to the reception didn't arrive."Behind on time due to a late ceremony start, we decided to send the bridal party to the reception in the limo and then have it come back for the bride and groom chemical hose," wedding photographer Beth T blogged. "It was the perfect solution, but only IF the limo driver remembered to come back—which he did NOT!!"

Susquehanna Hose Company members noticed the situation from their vantage point at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, where they were having a crab feast.Firefighter Sam Cubberley said he and his wife, Sonya, approached the newlyweds, who were on the phone; they declined assistance."We returned to the crab feast but after a few minutes saw the hand expressions of the bride and groom and knew it was time to act," Cubberley said. "I grabbed the driver and we brought Engine 535 around the block to give them a ride."They were happy to see us," Cubberley continued. "As we rounded the corner to the reception, we turned on the lights and siren."

The wedding party was waiting at La Banque de Fleuve on Saint John Street."There was that brief moment of nobody really knowing what happening, and then the doors opened fuel hose," Kimberly Barth, owner of La Banque de Fleuve, said.Rather than Susquehanna Hose Company firefighters, Taylor Karabaich emerged from the engine in her wedding gown. The crowd outside La Banque de Fleuve cheered, including bystanders who weren't part of the wedding, Barth said."I always get a little emotional when I see the bride for the first time because you get to know [them] so it's always special—that first sight, that first look when they come in," Barth said. "But I've got to tell you, that was exceptional."

Milton man douses residential fire with garden hose

Berlanga said a nearby wooden fence rigged with plastic rope was on fire in a backyard, and it appeared to have spread to a raised, balcony-style deck attached to the house on Nelson Avenue. Berlanga said the fire was relatively small, but was starting to take off. "I said, 'Damn, this looks like it's going to keep spreading,'" he said.Berlanga said he ran to the front of the house and started knocking on the door to warn anybody inside, but nobody came to the door.Berlanga searched frantically for a garden hose. Before a police officer arrived, Berlanga found a hose tucked in some bushes. He said someone had left the outside faucet turned on, so all he had to do was start spraying the deck.

"I just started spraying it and put the fire out," he said. "The Milton cop who came took over after that and took care of the rest of it. I just told him, 'Cool. Berlanga said he thought the teen had been asleep the whole time and the commotion had awakened him.The teen was unharmed, police said.A Milton Fire Department official said the department still was looking into the fire Friday and had not determined a definite cause or a damage estimate.Milton police hailed Berlanga's quick actions, saying he went a beyond the normal call for a citizen reporting a fire.

"His quick thinking and actions are well above what is expected in such a situation and deserve our community's thanks for a job well done," Layber said in a written statement.Layber said Berlanga's actions might well have averted a more fully involved house fire. "The officer told me it was cool that I helped out," Berlanga said. "Because, you know, most people don't do that. They don't get involved."Berlanga said that, as a kid, he wanted to be a police officer or fireman. He said it was "cool" handling a de-facto public safety detail for one afternoon, but that he plans to stick with what he does best—his day job as an apparel salesman.

Duct work to be removed from Mechanics Hall

Friends of Mechanics Hall member Alex Fiandaca said her group will also hold a bake sale and offer guided tours of the building on the day of the yard sale. The Friends of the Princeton Fire Department will sell refreshments, she said.Fiandaca said that building inspector John Wilson had no problem with the Friends group removing the duct work in the basement of the building."A professional looked at the duct work and said it could never again be used in that capacity," said Mark Fiandaca. "The only thing it's doing is pulling in moisture from the outside China Chemical hoses suppliers," he said. "We want to remove the duct work and dry out the basement." The basement has a dirt floor.

Members of the Friends cleaned all the debris in the basement the previous weekend. The duct work will be taken to the highway department for scrap metal, Fiandaca said.Expert recommendations vary on this subject, but most experts agree that you will benefit from duct cleaning every three to five years. A cleaning may be in order if you have smokers in the household, pets with high amounts of hair and dander, notice excessive dust, water contamination or damage, after home renovations or remodeling or prior occupancy to a new home. If you want to know what the inside of your vents look like, open up the vent covers and take a picture.

Allowing an unqualified contractor to clean your ducts, though, could be worse than not having them cleaned at all. More particles could be broken up and released into your home or your HVAC system could be damaged.Get written estimates from at least three different companies and check references. Most quality air duct cleaning companies use outdoor vented equipment, so all dust and debris is captured and contained outside the home.Check if your state requires air duct cleaning licensure and if so, have the company provide proof of licensure Low Temperature hoses suppliers– as well as proof of insurance – before you hire.

The vote on another recommendation passed

After the meeting, Herring confirmed that the district has been given the go-ahead by the Ohio School Facilities Commission to keep Westgate, which was actually slated for demolition as part of the district's building improvement project. He said, however, that no money will be provided by the state to maintain or repair the building.Treasurer Todd Puster agreed there are two other options through the state the district could explore for repairing the boilers, an emergency program and HB 264 for projects that demonstrate energy conservation.

Wolf said the district "has an obligation" to approach the state to determine if either of those options are workable. In other facility-related matters, consultant Sam Sowards reported on the status of the Patterson Field improvement project, saying most of the work and inspections are complete, with a few items still to be addressed, such as tile on the shower floors, gutters and sealing the HVAC.The new restrooms will be used this week for the junior high football game and the entire project will be ready for use during the Sept. 6 varsity game, according to Herring.

The vote on another recommendation passed, but with both Martin and board member Scott Dieringer voting against a contract with the county Educational Service Center (ESC), which had been tabled at the last meeting when questions arose about possible duplication of supervisory services. When asked Monday what he had learned about the services since then, Herring said part of those include professional development of staff members and support services, such as representatives who work at the elementary buildings.Asked if the district couldn't check with other counties' ESCs to compare services and costs, Herring said that could be done for next year, prompting Martin to ask why it had to wait until then, saying, "We're talking about $190,000 the cost of the proposed contract."

How to fix a leaking garden hose

If a new hose end washer and thread sealant do not do the trick, it may be time to replace the hose end fitting. Use a carton knife to slice the old hose end off the garden hose, making sure the cut is as straight as possible.Take the old end to your local hardware store and purchase a replacement barbed-end hose fitting. These come in various styles and sizes. Choose one that is right for your specific application. Hard plastic fittings hold up surprisingly well in lawn and garden applications, but the heavier metal ones are a better choice for farm, ranch and construction applications where hoses are more likely to get thrown about or stepped on.

Leave the hose in the hot sun long enough for it to heat up and become supple or lubricate the cut end of the hose with a small amount of liquid dish soap. Slip the hose clamp onto the hose end and push the barbed portion of the fitting securely into the hose.Tighten the hose clamp and test the new end for leaks.Hoses that are leaking somewhere beside the hose end fitting can also be repaired using plastic or metal-barbed hose repair clamps. These fittings come in various styles and sizes and are installed in the same manner as the barbed hose end fittings.

For small leaks or tears, self-fusing silicone tape or a package of automotive hose repair tape can seal the deal quickly and easily. Clean away dirt and debris from the area to be repaired. Stretch and pull the tape wrapping the hose with overlapping layers. Wrap the tape over the leak as well as 3 to 5 inches above and below the punctured or torn spot to ensure a water-tight seal.

Let's be careful out there

You can't always count on traffic control at fire scenes, either. Fire crews get there and get to work, so drivers need to be thinking: don't drive over hoses, don't drive between engines and fires, don't drive amongst crew members and equipment. Slow down and go around, or carefully stop and turn around.A man is being held without bond after he was found showering naked with a hose next to a girls locker room at Key West High School.Three girls attending an overnight band camp at the school walked by Paiboon Sunthroncharti, 33, sometime after midnight on Saturday, Key West Police said.

Band director Gary Hernandez told police that the girls were walking next to the girls locker room and saw a man'pletely naked, washing off with a garden hose, officials said. Hernandez said both the girls and boys locker room doors were propped open, but no one was found inside, fuel hose according to authorities.Police finally found Shunthroncharti laying on the track field after a search, and the officer recognized him as a man who had been on school grounds earlier in the evening, according to an arrest report."I came in through the hockey rink and there are no signs saying I can't be here," Sunthroncharti said, according to the report.

He told the officer he entered the school through a double gate next to the softball field, the report said.He then denied using the hose to take a shower, but said he had seen "two short Mexicans" leaving the school property, chemical hose police said. The officer noted that Sunthroncharti's hair and shirt were wet in the arrest report.Jail records list Shunthroncharti as living in Miami Beach. He has not yet been released on trespassing charges and it is not known whether he has a lawyer.

Covidien launches new catheter for treatment of Barrett's esophagus

Covidien PLC, a provider of healthcare products, has launched a new catheter for the treatment of Barrett's esophagus and other specific gastrointestinal bleeding disorders in the United States and Europe. The Dublin-based'pany, with U.S. headquarters in Mansfield, Mass., on Tuesday launched the Barrx Channel RFA Endoscopic Catheter. When Barretts esophagus, a precancerous condition of the esophageal lining that is a'plication of gastroesophogeal reflux disease, is left untreated, it can lead to cancer of the esophagus.

According to Covidien, its Barrx line of catheters is based on technology that controls the amount of RF radio frequency energy delivered during a procedure to remove diseased tissue, leaving the healthy tissue untouched. By using the catheter, doctors can shorten the time of procedures because the new design allows for few endoscope introductions and removals, according to Covidien."Covidien continues to offer patients and physicians a solution to address Barrett's esophagus," said Vafa Jamali, vice president and general manager of GI Solutions at Covidien. "The newest addition to the Barrx portfolio is designed to simplify the procedure by delivering our proven RF technology through the working channel of the endoscope.

"Our increasing reliance on implantable devices such as catheters and stents,'bined with the rapid evolution of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria has created a challenge for the medical'munity. The covalent immobilisation of antimicrobial peptides on the surface of devices to give them an antimicrobial coating has been suggested many times before. However, host cell toxicity and reduced activity following sub-optimal immobilisation strategies often hinder the success of immobilised AMPs.

Presbyterian Blue Hose

We're ready to get back to work; we're through with our pre-planning stages as a coaching staff and we're looking forward to preparing to play Wake Forest, seeing how our football team will gel together and seeing the leadership of the team'e to the forefront."Fan Day will take place this year on Aug. 24, at Bailey Stadium.  An autograph session is planned for 9 a.m., with an extended practice to be held on the field at 10 a.m.  There will be many other activities for fans of all ages.  More details, including a schedule of events, will be released later. The Presbyterian Blue Hose, enter the 2013-2014 football campaign'ing off of a 2-9 record last year overall, including an 0-6 record in the Big South. Its head coach is Harold Nichols, a 1990 graduate of Presbyterian, who holds a record of 8-25 in three years. The Blue Hose lost its last six games of the year by a'bined score of 266-74 an average of 44-12.

Although last year was not a good year at all, there are a few reasons for Blue Hose fan to feel a little better about the u'ing season. The primary reason is they the coaching staff added former PC head coach Tommy Spangler as its new defensive coordinator. Spangler spent the past six years as the defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech, where he turned around a woeful LT defense into one of the best in the WAC. He formerly served as the HC of Presbyterian from 2001-2006, where he led the Blue Hose to 42-24 57% the best in school history.

That is a fantastic hire by PC, as Spangler was a nominee for the 2011 Broyles Award given annually to the best coordinator in the FBS. He should get the Blue Hose defense playing much better as the year goes on and will likely bolster the entire play of the team.Presbyterian also returns a lot of starters from last year's squad who have been around the block a couple of times. Although one might question whether a lot of returners from a 2-9 team is a good thing, I believe that it is in this case, especially in the areas that PC returns them.

Garden hose or fire hose?

Standing beside a fire truck, MacDonald points out that firefighters wear special protective gear that residents just don't have.He speaks directly to residents, telling them to get out of the house immediately when there is a fire, call 911 from outside the house and meet family members in a designated spot."Please, stop trying to put out the fire. Call us, let us do our jobs," MacDonald concludes.MacDonald went public last month after six recent house fires in which the occupants attempted to put out the flames themselves before calling 911. That put their safety at risk, and in two of the instances,Accessories suppliers almost cost them their lives. The delay in calling firefighters also resulted in the fires spreading and causing more damage than might otherwise have been caused.

They keep showing up in my e-mails. Both the regular e-mails and in the spam filter.Like invitations to Harry Potter to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, they keep'ing -- no matter what I do.It struck me the other day -- when I received the umpteenth e-mail solicitation to purchase one of those new pocket or flexible garden hoses -- how much we take for granted the lowly garden hose.My mind raced back to my growing up years in the 400 block of South Duke Street. As I recall, there was an outside water spigot at the back of the house to which a hose could be connected. At that time, hoses were made of rubber. They were somewhat heavy and rolling them up was difficult.

The hose had a tendency to kink and cut off the water flow at inopportune times. The main purpose of the hose was to wash the wood steps at the front of our home, the concrete sidewalk and the paved area in the backyard. That meant snaking the hose down the alley way between our house and the one next to it to get to the front of the house. I don't believe we ever "Grain Oil Hose" what little grass was in the backyard. If we attempted to grow any plants back there, we used a galvanized pail, watering can, or an unused coal scuttle to carry the water back to the plants.

Squirting Saturnian moon squeezed like a garden hose

Pre-orders for the 2x3" mats with "tasteful color pairings "start at $175 although smaller contributions will get backers items such as T-shirts, stickers, and reclaimed fire hose iPhone cases. And as mentioned, due to the recycled and handcrafted nature of the mats and all Oxgut items, each design is totally unique: "Each mat will feature its own authentic personality. Coloring and stenciling will vary. But your mat will be rad. It will."The intensity of the jets of water ice and organic particles that shoot out from Saturn's moon Enceladus depends on the moon's proximity to the ringed planet, according to data obtained by NASA's Cassini spacecraft.

The finding adds to evidence that a liquid water reservoir or ocean lurks under the icy surface of the moon. This is the first clear observation the bright plume emanating from Enceladus' south pole varies predictably. The findings are detailed in a scientific paper in this week's edition of Nature."The jets of Enceladus apparently work like adjustable garden hose nozzles," said Matt Hedman, the paper's lead author and a Cassini team scientist based at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. "The nozzles are almost closed when Enceladus is closer to Saturn and are most open when the moon is farthest away. We think this has to do with how Saturn squeezes and releases the moon with its gravity."

Cassini, which has been orbiting Saturn since 2004, discovered the jets that form the plume in 2005. The water ice and organic particles spray out from several narrow fissures nicknamed "tiger stripes.""The way the jets react so responsively to changing stresses on Enceladus suggests they have their origins in a large body of liquid water," said Christophe Sotin, a co-author and Cassini team member at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. "Liquid water was key to the development of life on Earth, so these discoveries whet the appetite to know whether life exists everywhere water is present."

Police search for 3 suspects after Long Lake couple duct taped

Police are searching for three armed suspects following a reported home invasion and robbery in Long Lake, Minn.Three black men entered the home of John and Karen Davis around 2 p.m. at 294 Glenmore Avenue on Saturday afternoon, bound them with duct tape and held them at gunpoint, stealing their red 2014 Kia Sorento, Minnesota plate number 723-KVL, both of their wallets and cell phones. When the couple was able to break free, they called police around 3:40 p.m. Police saw a trail of blood leading from the house but do not believe it came from John or Karen Davis.

John Davis was taken to North Memorial for back and neck injuries. Karen Davis was punched in the nose by one of the intruders but refused treatment. She is currently at home recovering. Police say their injuries are not serious and they are expected to recover.Wayzata police have had jurisdiction over the address since 2011 -- it was previously covered by Orono police. Since 2011, Wayzata police have had 22 calls to this address for various reports, including harassment, court order violations and pointing a gun at an officer. We've seen a lot of reports from Angie's List members in which they were quoted prices ranging from $49 to more than $1,000 for air-duct cleaning. With such a wide array of pricing, how is a homeowner to know what to pay? I r.mend you start by avoiding the super-low "deals."

If you hire a reputable.pany to clean your ducts, expect to pay $300 to $500, depending on the size of your house, the number of ducts you have and how difficult or easy it is for the.pany to access them.In your case, the cost probably will be closer to $500 than $300, but check with a few.panies in your area to see what they charge. What's most important is to find a.pany with a good reputation in your.munity. Unfortunately, duct cleaning is an industry in which we see some.panies try bait-and-switch tactics. These scammers will advertise that unbelievably low rate — typically with a coupon in a mailer or flier — and then immediately start tacking on up-charges or use scare tactics, such as saying they've found mold in your ducts, almost as soon as they get in the door.

Heating Offers Electrostatic Filter With Duct Cleaning

Local Mesa, Arizona air conditioning company, Air Care Cooling & composite hose manufacturers, is offering electrostatic filters with a duct cleaning service for a limited time. Electrostatic filters are an important component to maintaining a safe, clean indoor air environment. Air Care is extending this limited time offer to its customers, both current and new. Electrostatic filters are included with the whole house duct cleaning service.

Clean Air Ducts in Arizona are an important feature for any home, removing dangerous allergens from the indoor air environment. Over time, dirt and dust can collect on return air registers where dirt eventually gathers in the air ducts themselves. Even mold can grow in the air duct, causing a whole new set of air quality issues. The dirt and mold will spread throughout the home when it is blown in the vents, taking the overall indoor air quality down.

This can be especially dangerous for young children and allergy sufferers, which is why the EPA recommends that air ducts are cleaned on a semi-regular basis. An air duct cleaning allows the HVAC technician to look for signs of growing mold or even rodents inside the duct work and prevent any major issues before they become problems. Air Care and their NATE certified technicians want to help their customers prevent any potential health problems with their air duct cleaning service.

The included electrostatic filters will go that extra mile to prevent toxins from gathering in the duct work once they have been properly cleaned. An electrostatic filter is imperative to help trap and filter out dust, bacteria, mold, pollen, marine fuel hose, and even viruses. Instead of allowing those particles to spread throughout the duct work and the Phoenix air conditioning system, and in turn the inside of the home, the included electrostatic filter will help protect homes from the invisible dangers in the air homeowners breathe every day.The electrostatic filters will ensure that Air Care's customers get the most out of their duct cleaning service and are protected for months to come.
