Propane leak prompts evacuation
Nearly 200 people were evacuated and 600 motorists were detoured Tuesday morning in Lewisburg because of propane leaking from a hose valve at an AmeriGas tank along the south side of CSX railroad tracks accessed from Spring Place Road.A state highway construction contractor's worker on South Ellington Parkway called authorities and Lewisburg Gas Department Manager Leroy Mullins was notified at 7:12 a.m., Lewisburg Fire Chief Larry Williams reported. Mullins found the tank owned by Heritage Propane and called the fire department.
The area between Spring Place Road and Belfast Avenue was blocked, Williams said. CSX stopped train traffic. Police and firefighters went door to door clearing buildings including Burk Building Supply, Blaylock Plumbing and Heating, the Co-op, its tire store, Ace Hardware, Childress Concrete, H&R Block, the Farm Center and Handi Mart. Evacuation started at 8:01 a.m. and was completed at 8:22 a.m.

Taiwanese boats enter waters near disputed islands
Dozens of fishing boats and 12 coast guard ships from Taiwan briefly entered waters close to a disputed island chain in the East China Sea, Japan's Coast Guard said on Tuesday.The Coast Guard said the vessels had left Japanese territorial waters by noon local time after it issued a warning and fired water cannons at the ships. Once a year, every hose in the Wauwatosa Fire Department's service has to be pressure-tested – and guess who gets to do the grunt work? Delaware Burn Camp brings fun to victims
The camp was filled with a variety of activities that are designed for fun, learning, and development of campers' self-esteem. All activities are tailored to meet the physical and special needs of burn survivors. Some of the activities held at the camp included swimming, boating, fishing, movies, archery, dancing, hiking, arts and crafts, horseback riding, and many more.
"This is our fourth season," said Joanne Hutchison, president of the Delaware Burn Camp and a nurse at Bayhealth Medical Center. "The first year we had six children and we've grown to 14 survivors this year. The biggest problem we have is getting the word out to the children about the camp. Even though we are nurses, we can't solicit the children through our jobs. We put the literature out there and hope the parents see it."
The burn camp is staffed by nurses, firefighters, volunteers, professional and non-professional people from around the state, and welcomes any child between the ages of 6-18 who has sustained a serious burn injury. Everything is free of charge to the families of the children. Money is raised through the fire service, private organizations, and supportive community members.

Hudson River jaunt turns into misadventure for Kansans
They weren't in Kansas anymore.Four men from the Sunflower State experienced some rough waters on the Hudson River Monday evening, causing the homemade pontoon they were riding to overturn.The accident brought out the East Kingston and Ulster Hose fire departments, their marine units and members of the Kingston police and Ulster County Sheriff's Office as well as other emergency personnel.

Firefighter slain after confrontation, deputies say

A hydraulic fluid spill made a mess of traffic in Winnipeg on Tuesday morning, including at the busy Portage and Main intersection.Two northbound lanes of Main Street at Portage Avenue were blocked for more than two hours,Fuel and Oil hoses as were the westbound lanes on the Provencher Bridge.

Volunteers with American Hose Company No. 1 will go door-to-door again today for donations for this year's "Thunder Over Ashland" fireworks display, which will be held at dusk July 3, at Memorial Field. The rain date is July 7. A tag day will be held beginning at 9 a.m. July 1. The fire company sponsors the Ashland event.Saturday Night Bingo games are held weekly at the Coaldale Ambulance Building. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m. The event includes a variety of games. Free coffee and tea are available and there are weekly door prizes.

Firefighters remember friend lost in Cheesequake Creek
A group of firefighters gathered on Tuesday afternoon at Sayreville's Melrose Hose Company 1, where the flag was lowered to half-staff, to reminisce about their friend and fellow firefighter, Paul Chrzaszcz."He was a good guy," Assistant Fire Chief George Gawron said. David Lasko said. Just before noon Tuesday, rescuers were seen carrying a body covered in a white sheet to shore.
On Monday night, Chrzaszcz dove into the water and did not resurface, Lasko said. He was reported missing by a friend, Evan Barchowski, 22, of South Amboy. The two had been boating on Sunday, when the small motor fell off the boat. They located the motor underwater and used a magnetic device to mark the site, Lasko said. The two returned on Monday to retrieve the motor.Lasko said a search team from the State Police's aviation and marine units, a dive team from Franklin Township and the Sayreville police were mobilized Monday night. The search was suspended at about 11:30 p.m. and resumed Tuesday morning.
