Volunteers with American Hose Company No. 1 will go door-to-door again today for donations for this year's "Thunder Over Ashland" fireworks display, which will be held at dusk July 3, at Memorial Field. The rain date is July 7. A tag day will be held beginning at 9 a.m. July 1. The fire company sponsors the Ashland event.Saturday Night Bingo games are held weekly at the Coaldale Ambulance Building. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m. The event includes a variety of games. Free coffee and tea are available and there are weekly door prizes.

The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art has announced the schedule for its 2012 summer camps, where people can explore the world of nature and art. The camps, according to a release from Alexis Dow Campbell, the center's director of creative programming, are designed for exploration through experience-based activities. Registration is open for the camps and various fees apply. Participants must wear closed-toe shoes. Those attending full-day camp sessions must pack a brown bag lunch with extra water. Light snacks will be provided.

Family Night at the Pottsville Free Public Library will focus on self defence at 6 p.m. Thursday. Local karate instructor Dennis Tobash will focus on different self-defence techniques. The event is for children ages 6-12, according to Darren DeArment, the library's head of youth services.
